CosaminDS is a nutritional supplement which aids the recovery of flexibility in impaired joints such as knees, hips, fingers, shoulders, neck and the lower back. This unique patented formula contains high grade Glucosamine HCl (500mg), Chondroitin Sulphate (400mg) and Manganese Ascorbate (76mg). When given together in these correct proportions the ingredients work together to support the structure and function of articular cartilage which is the resilient slippery tissue that covers the ends of the bones in joints. It lubricates the bone surface and acts like a "shock absorber".
Articular cartilage consists of a relatively few cells surrounded by a material called the matrix. The small number of cartilage cells normally maintain the balance between essential proteins and carbohydrates in the matrix but this balance may be upset by daily wear and tear, chronic overuse, trauma, obesity or the ageing process. An imbalance occurs in the matrix due to a decrease in the production combined with an increase in the destruction of essential proteins and carbohydrates. This in turn leads to the inability of the cartilage to lubricate the joint or absorb shock as it did before.
CosaminDS assists cartilage by stimulating the cartilage cells. Taking the active ingredients Glucosamine HCl and Chondroitin Sulphate together is better than taking either alone as they have different but complementary actions. Glucosamine stimulates the cartilage and Chondroitin helps counter normal cartilage breakdown.
